How long will Belgian diesel excise duties continue to exist and what do we know about the coming years?

The central demand for many transport operators is clear: What is the future of Belgian diesel excise duties? In previous news flashes, we discussed how the fees are calculated and what European rules are behind them. But maybe more importantly: How long will this arrangement last? Governments are often erratic in their decisions, making it difficult to plan far ahead.
The Belgian authorities have for the first time established a multi-annual horizon, with maximum compensatory amounts for 2024, 2025 and 2026.
However, you have to make choices for your business that cover a horizon of several years. The diesel compensation plays an essential role in this, because fuel costs are a substantial part of total cost. Fortunately, the Belgian government now offers some certainty.
It has set maximum compensation amounts for the next three years: In the case of a 1.000 liter refueling, this means only one euro: a fee of €205 will be €204. In short: a minimal decrease, but above all an important confirmation of continuity of the scheme.
Something many transporters are looking for.
