The Regulation on type-approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles () aims to support the transition to clean mobility and to keep prices of private and commercial vehicles affordable for citizens and businesses. Vehicles will be longer to meet the new standards, so that they will remain cleaner throughout their lifetime.

Emission limits Emission limits remain unchanged for passenger cars and vans, as set in Euro 6.

However, for trucks and buses are more stringent standards introduced. The existing in testing is reduced from 460 milligrams per kilowatt hour to 200 milligrams per kilowatt hour. Euro 6 (for passenger cars) and Euro 6 (for trucks and buses) is subject to a minimum standard of 100,000 kilometres.

For Euro 7, the standards are maintained until 200,000 vehicle kilometres. Specific details of the Euro 7 standard will be laid down in later legislation.

The provisional agreement reached with the European Parliament must now be ratified and formally adopted by both institutions.

It is expected that the new standards in force for new vehicles mid-2028. A lot is being asked of the transport sector when it comes to implementing the standards. However, it is important for the transport industry to be proactive with the implementation of the new standards and to be flexible in adapting business strategy to changing regulation and technological developments. Deduction from standards is not option. By making timely preparations, the transition to the Euro 7 standards can be eased and possible distortions can occur.
